Family
Background
Where were you born and grew up?
Shaun was born November 12, 1978 in King Island, Tasmania, Australia.
He grew up in various towns along the east coast of the mainland, due
to his father being in the Air Force. He considers Bendigo as the place
he grew up though.
Do you have siblings and are your parents
still alive?
He has a sister, Leane (28), and a brother, Chris (24). His parents live
close by and of course, mum, Gayle (aka Maxie) is also a streamer.
What was your favourite thing to do/play
as a child?
As a teenager, he was competitively involved with 10-pin bowling, participating
in 2 leagues a week and tournaments on the weekend
In high school, I would have been voted
most likely to…
Shaun was really not sure about that one. In high school, he was known
as the class clown and enjoyed theatre and drama.
Music background
Do you sing or play a musical instrument
(been in a choir or a band)?
No, never!
Who were your major musical influences
growing up and now?
“My greatest music influences came from my mum and dad’s car
music choices… horrible radio stations we had to listen to on car
trips.” But this gave him a greater appreciation for various music
styles and the classics of rock. He says that his wife, Christy influences
his tastes the most now, listening to more alternative rock than mainstream…
bands like Pearl Jam and Hot Red Chili Peppers. At work, he is able to
listen to music all day: CDs and radio, and there are some days when he
comes home and considers himself “all musiced out.”
If you could play only one style of music,
what would it be and why?
The Real World
Are you married or in a serious relationship?
If so, how long?
Shaun and Christy were married September 14, 2002, having dated for seven
years before this. Yes, high-school sweethearts, as much as Shaun hates
that term. They have no children (much to his parents’ dismay).
Do you have children? If so, how many
and ages?
The have no children (much to his parent’s dismay.
What do you do for a living?
Currently, he is the production manager for Baker’s Delight with
a pending promotion to Store Manager coming shortly. Sounds like it’s
well deserved!
What do you do for enjoyment, other than
chatting and streaming?
When he does get to dust off the flour, he enjoys
watching movies and has a very serious DVD collection. “Daytime
TV is, to put it nicely “shit”, so I watch movies, read, golf
with my father and clean the house.” Christy confirmed that, yes,
he does indeed clean the house, but she was grumbling about having to
fold the laundry while he was talking to us. Thriller suspense stories
in both movies and books are the best… “Stories that make
you think” are listed at the top as his choices. He also enjoys
books with a fantasy element and that are quick paced. Going out to dinner,
and watching movies with Christy fill some of his time, and holiday time
is spent travelling.
Their out-of-the-ordinary honeymoon was a one-month
trip to Thailand. They spent one week in Bangkok and then headed out for
a two-week guided tour to western-Thailand. This included a trek through
the hills and staying in the local villages. The trip ended with a one-week
stay at a 5-star resort in Phuket. Shaun summed up their honeymoon as,
“it was the most memorable experience of my life.”
Miscellaneous
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone,
alive or dead, who would it be and why?
Shaun said there was not one person, but many he would like to meet. He
said on their recent cruise, their dinner table was usually half empty.
Their other dinner companions began filling those empty chairs with imaginary
guests; Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin one night; musicians another. Shaun
said that is what he would like to be able to do, sit down with some of
the fascinating actors and creative directors of the day, i.e. Edward
Norton, Morgan Freeman, Steven Spielberg, etc., and find out how they
prepare for a role or find out how the directors bring out the best in
the best.
Tonight you can do anything you want (no
money/geographic restrictions), what would you do?
First choice would be to travel to meet all the great people from The
Log Cabin. He thinks it would also be great to be able to take an expensive
car and thrash its guts on the Autobahn. But then, he said, going to the
Louver and seeing all the best artists work in the world displayed would
be fabulous.
How do you really feel about us carrying
on about your voice and your Australian accent?
Laughing, he said that sometimes he wants to tell us, “it’s
just a voice, get over it. But other times it’s very nice. As interesting
as it is for you to hear an Australian accent, it’s equally interesting
for me to hear an American or Canadian accent.”
